The Smallest Mistake
Three went in; one came out. For five years, no trace has been found of two high-school friends who went hiking in the woods near Nashville. The third teen, Amber Ryder, was discovered at the bottom of a ravine with a broken arm, head trauma–and zero memory of the horror that put her there.
Will Put You
What started as a cold case has become a fresh hell for forensic technician Georgia Morgan. Another woman’s body is found in the woods, and it leads to the missing teens’ remains. But while Georgia works with Amber to try and reawaken her memories, her gut tells her the worst is yet to come.
At A Killer’s Mercy
Homicide Detective Jake Bishop can’t be sure whether Amber is an expert manipulator or the killer’s next target. Either way, he’s determined to protect Georgia. Because the deeper she digs into the past, the deadlier the secrets that emerge, and a nightmare years in the making is about to come to a bloody, terrifying end…
Praise for Mary Burton’s You’re Not Safe
“Burton once again demonstrates her romantic suspense chops with this taut novel.” —Publishers Weekly
When a cold case gets reopened it is only the beginning for a crazy ride. There are a lot of twists and turns in this crime thriller that will keep you guessing just who it was that was on a killing spree. Five years ago three high school kids walked into a woods but only one was found unconscious with broken bones and amnesia. What happened to the other two and who knows the whole story?
Georgia comes from a family of cops and is following in her family’s footsteps when she is the lead in this cold case. Once this case is reopened it brings the lone survivor back to Nashville in hopes of finding out what really happened in those woods. Georgia has help from Jake and her brother in trying to sort all of this out. During this it’s Jake who has taken a shine to Georgia when he sees her moonlighting as a singer in a bar in Nashville on her night off.
Are Jake and Georgia able to find out what actually happened by sorting through all of the information and bodies that have been turning up? They come at this case from different angles; Georgia depends mainly on the scientific aspects of solving a case and Jake is the old fashioned cop who knows how to go about asking the right questions to the right people. Seeing that they are on two different sides of solving crimes are they able to put their differences aside and see if there is anything that can come of their personal lives.
Mary Burton is one hell of a crime/thriller author and she sure knows how to put a good story together. It’s not until the very end that you find out what the heck really happened and who was actually involved. As for Jake and Georgia, she had you rooting for them all along without losing a beat when they were dealing with these crazy murders.

Mary’s been intrigued by investigative work and the people who do it since Virginia was stung by a string of serial killings spanning more than twenty years. So, it’s not surprising that many of her novels, for which she’s been compared to James Patterson*, Lisa Gardner**, Lisa Jackson*** and Stieg Larson, **** are propelled by the acts of multiple killers and those who pursue them. Her latest, Vulnerable, follows suit and is the fourth and final of her stories set in Nashville featuring the Morgans, Music City’s preeminent law enforcement family. Cover Your Eyes was the first in the quartet, followed by Be Afraid and I’ll Never Let You Go.
Mary’s admiration for real life police and investigative work and the skills, insights and tools they require, is evidenced in her books and by her commitment to researching procedures and forensic details. She is a graduate of the Richmond FBI Citizen’s Academy and the Henrico County Citizens Police Academy. She has attended Sisters in Crime’s Forensic University program and, annually, the nationally recognized Writers Police Academy, where the curriculum has included undercover work, autopsies, and theories of why people commit murder.
A Richmond native with family roots as deep as the nation’s, Mary has made her home there for most of her life. She is a graduate of Virginia’s Hollins University and worked in marketing before committing to write full time.
Mary is the author of twenty-nine published novels and five novellas. In addition to her books featuring the Morgan family, Mary’s other “connected” stories include The Seventh Victim, No Escape and You’re Not Safe, featuring investigators from the Texas Rangers. Senseless, Merciless and Before She Dies, all set in Alexandria. Her new short story, The Keepsake, is featured along with those by Jeffrey Deaver, Anne Perry and others in the anthology Killer Nashville Noir: Cold Blooded. She is currently anticipating the May 24, 2016 debut of her new novel, The Shark, the first of her Forgotten Files titles.
When not committing murder, Mary, completed her Baking & Pastry Arts Certificate at the University of Richmond’s Culinary Arts Program. She is now pursuing her Culinary Arts Certificate.
